If you'd like to do some anonymous Web browsing, then you need a Web proxy. Learn what a Web proxy is, and how you can find reliable Web proxies online.

The term Web Proxy normally refers to a proxy server that specifically handles web content (web pages and the like).

In a normal (no proxy) transaction
- a user will type in the address of a website they wish to view (or click on a link)
- the browser sends a request to the server hosting the site
- the server sends the requested content (web page) to the user's computer
- the user's browser parses the content and displays the page

With a proxy server
- a user will type in the address of a website they wish to view (or click on a link)
- the browser sends a request to the proxy server
- the proxy server sends a request to the server hosting the page
- the server returns the requested content to the proxy
- the proxy sends the requested content to the user's browser
- the browser parses the content and displays the page

Note the above is substantially simplified. Proxy servers may also cache a copy of pages viewed so they may be returned to the user faster. Proxies may also have filters in place to block certain sites or types of content. They may or may not also have logging enabled that logs who requests what pages.
